Trucks

I had fun building these trucks, and I think it’s because I didn’t have enough toys when I was little.

Both trucks are the same size about 13” long and made from hard maple.

The dump truck secondary colour is purple heart and the tow truck is walnut.

The dump truck box can be raised and the rear gate opens.

The tow truck winch works to hoist vehicles and will keep them lifted until the crank is turned backwards.

Ford truck

This is a replica of a 1929 Ford stake box truck. This one is built out of hard maple and Purple Heart as highlight. The gas cap, radiator cap, door handles, crank, steering column, and the floor shift is brass.  It took me longer to built this truck than it takes to build a Toyota, which is done apparently in thirteen hours.

Spinning tops

Many of us played with (brommkjriesl) something like thse when we were young. I was challenged to make some, so I set out to try. Here are some that I made on my lathe. They are relatively easy to make, and most are made out out of small pieces of scrap woods from my shop. They are made from plywood, Manitoba maple, fir, oak, elm, and olive etc.

Knitting needles

I made these as a special request for my daughter-in-law. I made them on a lathe out of pine and the caps are made from walnut. They are finished with bees wax. They measure just over two feet long and one and one half inch in diameter.

Candle holders

These are some of the tea light candle holders I made to give away at Christmas. They are all made from logs that I picked up at various places. They are made from Manitoba maple, olive, apple, elm, mesquite, and birch. I put bees wax on them for a finish.

VW bug

I made a few of these for Christmas to give to some young folks who would enjoy having one. They all disappeared and I didn't need to take any home.  They are made from pine which I picked up as left over from a job. The fenders are from scraps I had lying around. I chose the two woods for the natural color contrasts. The have no finish on them.
